By Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6, 7 ESV)
How do we receive Jesus the Lord? We do it by faith. So how are we to walk in him? The same way by faith.
What it looks like for the Christian to do this involves two things.
- We are to root, establish, and build ourselves up in the knowledge of God, Jesus, and the truth.
- We are to walk according to, or obey what we have learned with thankfulness.
So, it is not possible for the Christian to disconnect faith from fact. The Christian does not take some blind leap of faith; but rather pours himself into the knowledge of the truth. Then, and only then, does he trust and obey that which he learns with thankfulness.
Christians ought to be the most thankful people on the face of the planet. After all, what more could God possibly do to show the great love he has for us?
