“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2 ESV
Last evening, my wife and I went out on the beach to look for white sand crabs. We were told that crabs existed on the shores, but we were not sure of the color, size, or really what to expect at all. Karie spotted the first crab while I was shining the sand from the flash on my cell phone. It was smaller than a quarter and scurried sideways across the sand. We were so surprised. We were looking for some large red crab laying in the sand, not a cute, tiny little bugger that was the same color as the sand. When the light hits them, they either run away, or bury themselves backward in the sand. It’s really neat! The third one we found had a body that was oval shaped and spanned about 4 inches.
These little crabs feel no condemnation as they scurry across the sand in the darkness. They are doing what they were made to do. But when the condemning spotlight comes to bear upon them, they either run or hide themselves from the light.
We were made for the light, yet often times find our freedom in the darkness. Then when the condemning light of the law comes upon us, we either run away or hide ourselves from it.
Those who allow themselves to be exposed by the light, will in time, find their freedom in the light. It is as if Christ takes the crab who felt condemned by the light and fills it with a new spirit that no longer feels condemnation by the light, but rather freedom in it.
