“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”” Acts 20:35 ESV
My family and I are currently on vacation on the pan handle in the Gulf of Mexico. I am sipping a cup of dark roast, writing in Ulysses on my iPad, and looking out over the massive ocean as the sun begins rising. It’s simply perfect.
The text in Acts tells me Jesus at one point made the statement that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Who would know that truth more than the Lord of creation? All I see before me, and all those asleep in beds behind me, have been things I have received. God is the supreme giver, and I am to imitate his generosity. He is the most blessed person in all of creation, and also the most generous. As I think less of me and more of others, I will become happier. It is contrary to my nature to think I will gain happiness by loosing myself. I naturally think the more I receive, the happier I will be. Oh how important and necessary it is for our minds to be washed with the Word of God.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive”.
Thank you, Scott, for sharing these devotions. They are really beneficial for me understanding God and His word at a deeper level.
Thanks for your encouragement Amy!
