Containing 326 Million Trillion Gallons Of Water

“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’? (‭Job‬ ‭38‬:‭8-11‬ ESV)

They say the earth is the holding pond for 326 million trillion gallons of water. When God tells us the sea burst out from the womb, he means 326 million trillion gallons of water came flooding in and filling our world.

Being an HVAC guy, I have had many opportunities to try and contain water which has been blown out of a boiler. Maybe a medium size boiler contains 200-300 gallons of water. When it blows across a concrete floor, the containment of it is nearly impossible.

God blows forth 326 million trillion gallons of water and speaks the boundaries to it as it is pouring forth. “Thus far proud waves and no further.” He has set it’s boundaries and limits. God is the one that brings forth, and he is the one who contains. The question the Lord has for Job and for us is “were you the one who accomplished this?” The question is meant to humble us under the mighty power and wisdom of the Lord.
