I Will Not Be Shaken

Psalms 16:8 I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

I purposed sixteen years ago to read and study the Bible every morning before any food entered my mouth. No Bible, No Breakfast was the phrase. I got this from Job as he said:

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.

By God’s grace I have stayed true to that. I don’t really think about it any more, as the habit is so engraved into the depths of my being.

In Psalm 16 David said I have set the Lord always before. I am certain that he did far more then read and study the Scriptures before breakfast. He states the Lord’s ways, the Lord’s path, the Lord’s word, and the Lord’s perspective were always right there in front of all he did, all he planned, and all he thought.

Do you spend your first waking moments with the Lord? If not, why not? David reminds us that because he set the Lord always before him each and every day, he was not shaken. He knew that if the Lord was at his right hand; how could he be shaken if the solid hand of God was holding him firm?
