An Easter Devotion: He Led A Host Of Captives

Ephesians 4:8 Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”

Have you ever thought to identify yourself as a prisoner of war? Do you understand that you were once a slave held in bondage and shackled to your guilt and shame? You were not born free as you might think. You were born in a world where you could not choose selflessness over selfishness, holiness over impurity, or contentment over covetousness. You could not love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; nor love your neighbor as yourself. Any attempt to do so only reveals you do what you do with the entire motive to exult yourself over others. You can not lay down your life for others without wanting others to think more of you for doing so. You were not born free.

But in the fullness of time, God sent forth his Son to be born of a virgin. He was God made flesh; fully God and fully man. He dwelt upon this earth many years ago. He never did one act with the motive of exulting himself over others. He always chose his Father’s will over his own. Never did he sin with his mouth, never did he sin in his thoughts, and never did he stretch the truth one time ever. He was sinless so that he might be the pure and spotless lamb sacrificed for us, the impure and spotted captives.

Today is Easter. It is a day we remember the Lord fully accepted the sacrifice of the Son of God. A day we rejoice in the truth that the grave could not hold the One who never committed an act worthy of death. A day we glory in the knowledge that Jesus ascended on high and led a host of captives free. Have you been set free? For if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Happy Easter. He has risen!! Enjoy THIS VIDEO as a reminder of what he has accomplished for you.
