Jesus, A Ransom For All

1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

The word “ransom” reminds me of any number of old hostage movies. A bad guy takes a group of people hostage and demands a large sum of money for their release. The people are fearful and eager to be released because they know their life is in jeopardy.

The Scriptures teach that all of us from birth are hostages of Satan and unable to keep from sinning while in the bonds of our captor. The ransom demanded is the spotless blood of a man who lived upon earth in perfect holiness. The hostages in the movies clearly see they are not free and desperately desire their release. In real life it is not so obvious. We don’t visibly see our enemy, and are blinded to our own depravity. We tend to think we are better than we actually are because we compare ourselves with those worse than us. What might happen if everyone compared themselves with those better than us to see we all fall short. Even the near perfectest of men, the Apostle Paul, when comparing himself to Jesus said, “I am the chief of sinners.”

The good news is that there is One God. We don’t need to please any number of god’s, or be confused of the requirements. Between this one God stands one Mediator in between Him and us; the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life as the ransom price for all. To embrace your freedom simply requires you to repent (say and act as though you’re sorry) to this One God and trust (or have faith in) Jesus for all he has done for you. Why not start today?
