Slavery To A Perfect Master

Ephesians 1:11-12 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

Those of us who have trusted in Christ were predestined to obtain an eternal inheritance, reserved in heaven for us; the salvation of our souls, to the praise of God’s glory. The Holy Spirit was given as a gift, and a guarantee of this promised inheritance.

I tried numerous times before my conversion to trust in Christ. The idea of becoming a Christian was intriguing to me. I suppose I wanted the benefits of an inheritance, without the bondage of a master. But coming to Christ is a submission of self to Jesus as LORD and master. For if you “confess with your mouth Jesus as LORD, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead; then you will be saved.”

True freedom is becoming a slave to a perfect master. Slavery to a wicked master is bondage and death; while submission to a perfect master is freedom and life.
