Hospitality Towards God

[Read Genesis Chapter 18]

By this time in Abraham’s life, he was a wealthy and powerful man. From what I understand, it would have been very rare for a man of his stature to show such hospitality to just any group of strangers strolling past. I am guessing, by the way Abraham addresses one of the strangers, that he knew he was serving the Lord.

Genesis 18:3 He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.

I think we can take Abraham as an example for us to model our service to the Lord by. He hurries, he bows down, he stands at attention, and he commands those close to him to the service of God as well.

How often do you show such service to the Lord when he speaks to you through his word? To my shame, Abraham is a much more diligent servant than I. Yet I am comforted that the service Jesus rendered on my behalf is a sufficient ground of my acceptance with God.

Ephesians 2:8–9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
