Fighter Verse For August 16, 2015

When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. –Psalm 34:17–18

Job 5:7 says that “man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward.” We are a people who are in constant trouble and in continuous need of help. Our delivering God wants for us not to remain silent, but rather to cry to him for help. He promises that he hears our cries and will deliver us from all of our troubles. The deliverance may not come today or tomorrow. It may not even come while we are clothed in our earthly bodies. But our promise is that he will deliver us in time.

Not only does God hear our cries, but he is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. One of the purposes of Christ’s entrance into time and space, was to bind up the brokenhearted.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; –Psalm 34:17–18

Sin breaks us and makes us a slave in captivity. The Spirit of the Lord brings healing salve and bandage wraps to bind up those of us broken in sin. There is liberty for those who cry to Jesus for help. He hears and comes near those crushed and broken in spirit.
