Fighter Verse For June 28, 2015

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. –Galatians 6:9-10

Christians are to be consumed with the desire to do good to everyone we meet. We are to do this for the glory of God, and in the power of the Spirit. I mentioned that we are to do good works for the glory of God because 2 Corinthians tells us whether we eat, drink, or whatever we do, we are to do all to the glory of God. But there is another motive that plays into our good works that might surprise you.

Our text tells us that we are to do good works so that we will reap a harvest of righteousness. We are to do things for our own benefit, so long as that benefit is not self-centered and sinful, but rather God-centered and righteous.

An example might be that a mom diligently disciplines her child even though it is easier to just let things slide. This mom wants to do good for her child by helping his or her heart to become less sinful. But she also might want to discipline her child because she loves having a peaceful home. And in order to have a peaceful home, her rebellious child needs to become at peace with God through Christ. Her motive is to glorify God, but also to benefit herself in a good and right way.

Don’t give up and quit doing good works. In time you will reap what you are sowing.
