Having The Opportunity To Do Good: Fighter Verse

Fighter Verse For June 28, 2015

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. –Galatians 6:9-10

The word “opportunity” has the idea of “time,” or “seasons of time.” We are all given moments during the day when we have opportunity to do good to others. These times come in seasonal waves. Some families have less responsibilities in their home and are therefore more able to minister to others outside the house. Others are filled to the brim with needs right in their own homes, and so the only opportunity they have to do good is towards their children and spouse. Whatever season you are currently in, God’s desire is that you use your given opportunities to do good to everyone, especially to other Christians.

One additional thing to say is that we always are to do good to others no matter who that person might be, or what we might be doing. If I am working in a boiler room all by myself, I am either doing good to the person who’s boiler I am fixing, or I am not. If I am working diligent and hard, I am doing good to the owner. If I am sitting on a bucket behind the boiler looking at Facebook on my iPhone, I am not doing good to the owner. God has given me opportunity to do good, but I am wasting the opportunity by not redeeming the time. The mom who manages her four children day in and day out has millions of opportunities to either do good to them or evil. When this mommy sacrifices her desire for solitude and quiet to make yet another sandwich; she is doing good to them, and in obedience to Galatians 6:9-10.

Again we are encouraged not to give up. God is in the process of growing a harvest of righteousness that will be ready to reap in due season. Don’t give up! Keep doing good!
