The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. –Psalm 19:7-8
The law of the Lord is not only perfect at restoring the soul, sure at making the foolish person wise, right at rejoicing the heart, but is pure at enlightening the eyes.
We live in a world of darkness. I don’t mean that we lack the light to illumine objects around us. Rather the physical light is not adequate to illumine the spiritual darkness that lives both inside and outside each one of us.
We each were born into a world that is fallen. We begin to grow and mature and find very soon that the world around us is not the only thing that has darkness. Darkness dwells deep within each one of our souls, and a light is needed to see the remedy.
The commandment of the LORD is pure at bringing light to our eyes. The thou shall not’s show us quickly that thy can not. And these beautiful commands of the LORD point us to the Light of the world who alone is the Thou Can. Jesus Christ is the light of the world. He uses the light of the commands to bring clarity to the darkness inside our hearts, and our need for his cleansing remedy.
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes!
