The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. –Psalm 19:7-8
Not only is the law of the Lord perfect, restoring, and turning the soul; but it is sure, making the simple and foolish person wise.
Wisdom is something near and dear to my heart. It is something that I pray for every single day. I am so far from being a man who would be considered wise, and yet I have gained a fair amount of wisdom since I first became a Christian in 2003. I remember crying over the account of Solomon asking God for wisdom and discernment. God came to Solomon in a dream and asked him what he would like. Solomon confessed that he was unable to even walk before the Israelites and possessed no wisdom at all. God was so pleased with this request that he filled him with more wisdom than any human before him, and any who would follow till the end of time. I daily feel this same lack of wisdom that Solomon felt so many years ago. I have recounted Solomon’s words to the Lord more times than I care to share. I desire to have wisdom so much, I think, because I lack so much in that area.
The sweet news for me (and you) today is that the Scriptures contain the ability to create wise people out of fools. It does not happen in an instant, but through the continual study of the Word of God; it is sure to make wise the simple.
