Memory Verse 5-18-15: Day 1
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. –Colossians 3:16-17
The word of Christ is of course the words of Christ, and the words of Christ are found in the Bible. So our memory verse is commanding us to let the Bible dwell in us richly.
The word dwell means to inhabit, to remain, or to pitch a tent. It is used of the way the Holy Spirit dwells inside believers (1 Tim 1:14).
One of the best ways to understand what it means to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly is to look at it’s opposite. The opposite of dwell is wander. We are not to let the words of Christ wander around us never finding residence. But instead are to clear the weeds, lay out the tent, pound the stakes, and erect a home for our dear Lord to speak continually into the halls of our heart.
