Our Reasonable God

Isaiah 1:18 (ESV) “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

Holding on to our sin is unreasonable. This text indicates that God wants us to bring all of our questions and concerns into his presence. God calls you and I to come. Come here, or come close and let’s talk about this, let’s reason together about your sin. Your filthy, you have stained yourself with sin like a scarlet thread has absorbed the color red. Let’s talk about why you want to hold on to your sin. I will listen, I will listen to your reasons, just come here and talk with me.

Why do we hold on to sin? What reasons do we have for remaining dirty and stained when we can be washed, cleansed, and shine whiter than the purest wool or the freshest snow? What are your reasons?

Whatever they might be, God calls us to come and bring those reasons to him. He has the answers to our questions and he is not afraid of what you might have to say. He wants you to come. He wants to reason with you about your sin. Why won’t you come? What are your reasons?

I would encourage each of us to spend some moments pondering the remaining sin that we are still holding on to. Spend some moments pondering the reasons why we are still holding on, and then bring that information to the Lord who calls us to come. Our God is reasonable.
