By His Wounds You Have Been Healed

Psalms 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

God kills, destroys, and wounds, but also heals and binds the wounded. Everything that happens in all of creation is sifted through his sovereign and loving hands. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The Lord is the great Physician of the soul. A doctor may stitch the head of a child that fell on the concrete, but God binds the heart when he wonders why his brother would have pushed him down out of anger. The woman may undergo plastic surgery for scars from a man who raped her while holding a knife, but God heals her broken heart when she cries and wonders why. The psychiatrist may prescribe drugs to the father who is unhappy because his past sin haunts him. But God is the doctor of the soul who can bring true and lasting happiness through forgiveness.

1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
