Kept In Perfect Peace

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3–4‬ ESV)

When storms come into our lives, it can feel like we are on a tiny ship that is being desperately tossed around in the ocean during the blackness of night. The lighthouse is meant to give direction and instill peace and hope in those who are going through storms.

God is an everlasting rock.

The mind is regenerated through the new birth. It is enabled to trust upon the Lord. This ability of the Christian does not exist in an unconverted man. The unconverted man may have a degree of trust upon God, but only really amounts to a fleeting kind of wishful thinking. It can not trust upon an object that he has not been placed upon.

The mind can also be whirled about in a million directions, never really landing upon any fixed point. The mind of the Christian is enabled to fix itself upon the object of God, yet has the freedom to look away. The looking away brings turmoil, anxiety, and fear. When our minds are stayed upon the Lord, he keeps us in perfect peace. Not because we are the one’s trusting, but because he is keeping the looker.

I must remind myself and my family of this truth. The sun is going down and the storm clouds are whirling about the waters. It is getting darker and darker as next Friday comes nearer. We must fix our eyes through the fog and the mist upon the lighthouse of Jesus Christ.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
