Searching For God
You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13 NASB)
For myself, I find that it is quite hard to even want to search for God while my mind is consumed with searching for other things. Maybe women are better at it then men because I seem truly unable to search for two things at once. It may be a multi-tasking issue, but I doubt it.
There is a promise for us here that is such good news. But gaining the object of the promise (God) is both the simplest and the hardest thing imaginable. The good news of the promise is that we will find God. The simplest part of obtaining the promise is that God is not far from each one of us; “for in him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). The hard part of obtaining the promise is that we must search for him with all our heart. Which means that some of our heart can not be searching for something else while we seek God.
For instance, we can not search for God while searching for the approval of man at the same time.
God tells us “you will seek me.” Yet he follows by saying that we will only find him when we “search with all our heart.”
Let’s ask the Lord to forgive us for having a divided heart and begin a fresh to whole-heartedly search.
