For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:17 ESV)
Jesus Christ was sent by God into this world. He was sent on a mission to save the world. When an elite special forces team is sent to a foreign land to save their fellow soldiers; the enemy forces will more than likely be destroyed. Probably not all enemy fighters will die, but those closest, and most hostile to the good guys.
Jesus Christ was sent into the world to save it. He did not come the first time in order to condemn the world. He came to bring peace upon the earth and good will to man. He came to call hostile forces to repentance and faith in the one singular elite soldier that could save them. The world killed the one sent to save them. We live in a time period where his message has been preserved for us in the Bible. It tells us of Jesus' mission and message. We each have the opportunity to repent and trust upon him afresh today. We do not know the day of tomorrow. This elite soldier Jesus did not remain dead but ascended into the heavens from which he came. He promises us that he will return one day in order to set all of creation right. He will come this second time brandishing a sword and will divide the inhabiters into good and bad; those who have trusted the one who will return, and those who have not. Which group will you be in? How do you know?
