Seeking The Good

1 Corinthians 10:2 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

Can you imagine an entire culture of people who obeyed this verse–where not one person sought their own good, but only the good of others? It would probably be a pretty good glimpse of what heaven will be like.

Selflessness should be a normative character quality for Christians. This quality is exactly what Jesus is like. As his followers, we should be mimicking his example. If we do not, the opposite of selflessness is selfishness, and we ought not be a people with such an aroma.

Questions for the kids

  • Everybody seeks their own good, but nobody should. What does this teach us regarding the human nature?
  • Everybody seeks their own good, but Jesus didn’t. What does this teach us regarding Jesus’ nature?
  • How can you begin to be conformed to Jesus who sought the good of others, and not conformed to the world that seeks it’s own good?
