Worship Like A Sloth?

Romans 12:11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

The LORD wants our service to him to be a red hot, boiling over kind of fervency. He does not want us to be slothful or luke warm. If this is so we will be spit out of Jesus’ mouth on the last day.

The word zeal has to do with our passion. God does not want our passion to be a kind of lazy, recliner kind of passion. He wants instead for it to be fervent. Fervency carries with it the idea of a pot that is boiling over. This is the kind of passion our LORD wants from his children.

Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

questions for the kids

  1. When was the last time you remember praying to be passionate for God?
  2. Do you find that you are more passionate for other things than for God?
  3. Because of who God is, and what he has done for us in Christ; do you think he alone deserves to be first place in every area of our lives? If so, how do we get there?
