Victorious Love

Romans 8:37-39
No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

As I read this text this morning, I am reminded of the song The Love Of God. The love of God is a subject that doesn't seem to ever be able to be explored fully. I do think that we shall spend eternity plummeting the depths of this great wonder.

I am a father. I know something of the love that a father has for his children. There is one sense in which I could never imagine loving any of my children less than I do now. This love that I feel for my kids is something that does not have much to do with what they look like, how they act, or the level of their obedience. It seems to be born out of the fact they they are direct displays of the love and union that I have with their mother. In fact, the more time that passes, the more it seems that I love each one of them.

When Paul tells us that he is persuaded that nothing in all of creation could separate us from the love of God; he is showing us that God's love is an unconditional fatherly sort of love. A love that is not dependent upon any conditions in the children at all. A love that is displayed in the sacrifice of his dear and beloved son Jesus. The cross is the pinnacle of God's love. And we, his children, are victorious conquerors through him who loves us.
