By Psalm 96:4–5
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens.

Our LORD deserves our reverence and awe above all created things. The reason is because he made the heavens; he is the Creator who reigns supreme above all created things. It says in another portion of Scripture that the builder of the house deserves more honor than the house itself. The reason is because the house would not be the way that it is without the wisdom and skill of the builder. Without the builder, there would be no building. In the same way, God is the builder and designer of the heavens and the earth. He deserves our fear (our attitude of reverence and awe) because of his great power, skill, wisdom, and ability to design. The highest reason the LORD deserves to be feared is because of the sacrifice he made in his Son Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through him.
