Numbers 23:19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
- Read Hebrews Chapter 6
This text reminds us of two conditions that are common to mankind. We are mutable, and we are liars.
God cannot lie. It is actually impossible for him to lie because he is the truth! This is such good news for us today. Whatever God has revealed to us in the Scriptures, he must fulfill. Whatever promises he has made, he must make good on those promises because he cannot lie.
It is also good news that God is immutable. All change is either for the good or for the bad. We on the other hand are constantly changing. We change every minute that passes us by. We change in age, weight, knowledge, and a million other different ways. God does not change at all. He is perfect and can therefore never change for the worse; for that would imply that he were not perfect now. He also cannot change for the better; for that would also imply that he were not perfect now, but needed to become better.
Rest yourself this day upon the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world; the Lord Jesus. God is immutable, and he can never, ever lie.
