2 Samuel 7:22 Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
This is King David speaking in 2 Samuel. He is saying this because God had just sent his friend Nathan to tell David that one of his descendants would be King on an established throne forever. It is speaking immediately regarding Solomon, and ultimately of Jesus. David is praising God not only for the blessing of a descendant, but for the blessing of knowing about the descendant.
When was the last time you thanked God and told him he was great simply for the blessing of knowing him? I spent 30 years of my life not knowing God. We can take for granted this simple, yet profound grace of knowing God. He did not need to reveal himself to you. He did not need to open your understanding so that you might know him; yet he did. You know God is great, and that there is none besides him. And you know this because God gave you this knowledge through his Son Jesus. Jesus is the light of the world who shines God’s understanding into the dark recesses of our hearts. Praise the Lord! There is none like him!
