Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him. (Proverbs 14:2 ESVST)
—
It is sad for me to think about the deviousness of my children; especially our younger two. My two year old daughter and three year old son are always looking over their shoulder for some authority who will bust them for their crimes. I will tell my son to not yank the chew toy out of our puppy’s mouth. He will say “okay daddy,” then walk into the other room, look over his shoulder, and yank like there is no tomorrow. He is devious in his ways and despises the Lord.
The way that our children treat us is the way they treat God. If they will not submit to our authority, they will not submit to the Lords. They can not honor the Lord while they are disobeying his word which tells them to honor their parents.
My job as a father is to teach them the fear of the Lord so that they will walk in uprightness, and thus no longer despise the Lord. It takes prayer and patience on my part; gospel grace on the Lords.
