By 1 Timothy 6:3-5 “If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.”
Jesus Christ spoke sound words. The Bible contains true doctrine. Truth will always lead to godliness. Godliness is piety. One of the ways we have of separating truth from error is by seeing what type of lifestyle follows from believing whatever is proposed as truth. Truth will always conform a person into the image of Jesus. Error will conform a person into the image of Satan. Truth will lead a person to cling to their Bible. Error will lead a person to close it. Truth will lead a teacher to lift up Scripture. Error will lead the teacher to lift up human opinion, reason, and tradition.
Tomorrow we will see that truth always leads to contentment.
