10-14-13 Memory Verse 143

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” –Philippians 4:8

One way to help us understand this verse is to substitute the word “whatever” with “whoever,” and “anything” with “anyone” for a brief moment.

Finally, brothers, whoever is true, whoever is honorable, whoever is just, whoever is pure, whoever is lovely, whoever is commendable, if there is anyone of excellence, if there is anyone worthy of praise, think about these things.

There is only one person in all the world who qualifies to be the subject matter of this verse and his name is Jesus Christ. In order for us to be able to think about the things we are commanded, we must begin by thinking on the One who commanded. If our minds are washed daily in the word of our King, our lives will be cleansed by the power of His Spirit.

Let’s take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ!
