Proverbs 20:5

The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.

When we read through the book of Proverbs, we find that there are many benefits to wisdom. We learn the number one thing that God wants us to get is wisdom. We also remember that Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God; so we can not have wisdom without Christ, and we can not have Christ without wisdom; they are inseparable.

Proverbs 10:23 tells us that wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding. Verse 14:33 informs us that wisdom rests in the heart of the man of understanding. And lastly, knowledge is easy to a man of understanding, says Proverbs 14:6. So this man of understanding has a heart full of wisdom, takes great pleasure in it, and has a very easy time gaining knowledge. Not only that, but this person is able to draw out the purposes, intentions, and desires of others. These purposes are deep down in the heart, and the wise man of understanding is able to draw them out.

This not only has benefit with others, but will help you be able to dig the purposes out of your own heart as well. Our world needs wise biblical councilors; people of understanding who are able to draw down deep into the very souls of others in order to shine the light of the glory of God in the face of Christ down there. Oh that the Lord would make us a family of understanding!
