9-17-13 — One God And One Mediator

1 Timothy 2:5-7

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle ( I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

There is only one God. This statement is contrasted with their being many people. For there is one God for the many people. We may imagine that their are multiple Gods, for the many people speak of multiple Gods, yet none are true except one.

This one God has one mediator between himself and the many people; namely the man Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ is the only access that any person has to this one God. No matter what any one person says regarding their experiences, they are unable to access the true and living God apart from Jesus Christ.

It may seem harsh to suggest that there is only one way to gain access to God, but isn’t it incredibly loving and kind of God to provide a way. What if he didn’t? There is a way though and it isn’t up to us to concoct another. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.”
