9.8.13 – The Obedience Of Faith – What A Great Mystery!

Romans 16:25-27 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith — to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.

One of the great mysteries of the gospel is that the gentiles would be grafted into this great salvation. It was made known through the prophetic writings, or the Old Testament, but was hidden for the most part from peoples understanding. Now this gospel has been made known to all nations and is intended by our wise God to bring about the “obedience of faith.” I like that phrase and I think it says a lot. Faith obeys.

Colossians 1:5b-6 says “…the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing — as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.”

This is the obedience of faith. Paul tells us that the gospel grows and bears fruit in the life of it’s believers beginning the day they hear and understand the grace of God in truth. The gospel bears it’s own fruit, and does so from day one of a person’s conversion. Salvation is by faith, and true faith obeys.

Let’s take a moment to praise God for his wisdom which was revealed to us through the gospel. He is the eternal God who has made himself known to this little family in Harris Minnesota. I am so thankful that this mystery is now understood!
