8.24.13 — Prayer Is A Friend

Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

Matthew Henry says “prayer is a friend of hope and patience, in it we serve the Lord.”

We are called to be constant in prayer. Christians should be the most disciplined and consistent people in all of the world; after all, self-control (temperance) is a fruit of the Spirit. I think one of the goals each Christian should have is to bring every area of one’s life into a consistent worldview under the lordship of Christ. God has one view regarding every subject, and our goal should be to know what that view is and then “think God’s thoughts after him.”

As I am reading this verse, I am reminded about a couple of friends that the Lord has brought into my family’s life. These friends almost always respond in every situation by saying, “let’s pray about it.” I do not do this as well as I am suppose to, but am gaining strength even now as I think of the example of others; first and foremost being Jesus Christ!
