M. Verse 134 — Devotion
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. –Romans 5:9-10
—
The entirety of the Christian life is one of faith. We are reconciled to God by faith in the death of his Son. We are saved finally, and daily by faith in Christ’s life.
Paul reasons from the lesser to the greater. If God brings us into a loving covenant with him while we are his enemies through the death of his Son. How much more will we be daily and finally saved by the living and resurrected Son. If God forgives us while we are his enemies, how much more now that we are his sons and daughters?
We have faith that Jesus’ death was sufficient to make payment to God for the debt that we owed him for our sin. We then have faith that Jesus’ life is sufficient to guarantee our justification. God looks upon us as if we died with Christ at Calvary. He then looks upon us as if we were raised with Christ at his resurrection. We are in Christ by faith. Who could separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus?
