8.3.13 — God’s Purpose Behind Everything In Your Life

Romans 8:28-30

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God:those who are called according to His purpose. For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.

All things in the believers life work together for the purpose of conformity to Jesus.

God purposes for each of his sheep to be glorified with Jesus in heaven. Each one he foreknew before the foundation of the universe, he also predetermined that they would be justified and glorified with their brother Jesus in heaven. And so to make sure this occurs, he orders purpose out of everything that happens. The purpose is that each and everything single thing works to make these sheep into the very image of Jesus Christ.

It brings me such comfort to know that God’s sovereign hand is working behind every detail in my life. He is working for me and not against me. He looks over to his right as he sits in heaven and gazes at his son Jesus. He then looks down at me and finds ways to shape and mold me into the image of the one seated at his right hand. Jesus is the one posing for the Sculptor, I am the clay pot.

If you love God, then this same thing is happening for you as well; you are being used for an honorable purpose. If you do not love God, you are being left to dishonor.

Or has the potter no right over the clay, to make from the same lump one piece of pottery for honor and another for dishonor? (Romans 9:21)
