John 20:30-31
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name.
If I were to try and write an account such as this, I would surly write it differently. The things written in this gospel are amazing and miraculous. We have just finished reading of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. If I were to write an account of a resurrection, I would surly have included much more detail. I would have tried with all of my verbal and logical abilities to string together arguments sufficient to help along anyone to believe. God is not like that though. He has included sufficient proof in the gospels for those who will believe to believe. And he has left out enough detail to leave those who will not believe and scoff all their way to condemnation. God has left room for faith.
As we have spent some time here in the gospel of John, we have here but one duty because of all that has been said; to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. For this is the whole purpose of John’s gospel.
- Do you believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God?
- If you do, I declare to you that you have life in His name.
- If you do not, I declare to you that there is no other name given among men by which you can be saved. If you do not, you are still in your sins. If you do not, you stand before God in your own name. And without holiness, no one will see the Lord.
