In the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because of their fear of the Jews. Then Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”
Having said this, He showed them His hands and His side. So the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” After saying this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
In the beginning, God created Adam from the dust of the earth. Man was not made a living and useful piece of creation until God breathed the breath of life into him. The same is true spiritually through Jesus. A person is spiritually dead and useless to God until Jesus breaths the Holy Spirit into them. They are then made a new creation that is holy and acceptable to God.
Jesus is very concerned about who we fear. The disciples were hiding behind locked doors because they feared man rather than God. But Jesus comes to restore the fear of God in the heart of the disciples by proving himself alive, and giving them the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peace to you
- Do you struggle with the fear of man?
- If so, are you fighting against the fear of man by looking to the Word at Jesus? It is Jesus who will fill you with His Spirit and redirect your fear to the right object.
I heard it said somewhere that we worship whom we fear.
